Almost everyone thinks they’re good drivers. Heeling and toeing on public roads, clipping imaginary apexes, reeling in the front end when loose, slipping and sliding on exits but how good are you exactly? Well none of us will ever find out unless we start winning races and the likes of it but even then, we can’t be sure. Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsports and it’s the ultimate test of man and machine. It’s the one stage where you can actually know how great of a driver you are and all of us like to assume we can drive a F1 car with no problems. We may never get a chance to get behind the wheel of one of those super-karts but there are others who do.
Take this bloke for example, Ben Sulayem (or Mohammed bin Sulayem) is a UAE Championship rally driver and hails from Dubai. He recently got involved in a high speed crash when he pitted a Renault R28 F1 car against a Ford GT. Behind the wheel of the F1 car, Ben lost control of the Renault and shunted the multi-million dollar racer into a wall, shattering the poor car. According to reports, the Renault was spinning its tyres down the straight when it finally regained traction, this caused uneven grip transfer and pulled the car to the right - narrowly avoiding the Ford. Ben predictably walked away uninjured and the Renault is currently undergoing repairs ahead of the Renault F1 roadshow in Dubai this weekend. Bummer.
